St. Mary Catholic blasts Mishicot

The Zephrys knocked down 17 3-pointers and posted a season-high point total in a 96-55 win over Mishicot in a Big East Conference game.

Daniel Griffith scored 22 points and Cole Uhlenbrauck added 20 points for the Zephrys, who bolted to a 46-20 halftime lead before coasting in the second half.

Michael Fairweather added 13 points, while Ryan Ortscheid and Charlie Nackers each finished with eight.

Top-ranked Rockets roll past Appleton North

A big first half helped the top-ranked Neenah boys basketball team roll past Appleton North, 81-55, in a Fox Valley Association contest at Neenah High School.

It was the 13th straight win for the Rockets, who improved to 15-1 overall and 10-1 in conference play.

Neenah erupted for 49 points in the opening half to take a 21-point lead and then cruised in the second half.

Carter Thomas hit four 3-pointers and finished with 23 points to lead five players in double figures for the Rockets. Chevalier Emery Jr. added 17 points and seven assists, while Brady Corso had 16, Eli Schmidt had 13 and J.J. Paider finished with 12.

Zephyrs’ stymie Resorters to maintain Big East North top spot

St. Mary Catholic remained atop the Big East North standings following a dominant 77-30 win over Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah last Thursday.

The Zephyrs held the Resorters to just 12 points in the first half in building a 23 point lead and never looked back.

Chloe Vogel scored 18 points, while Sienna Anderson and Jadyn Vosters chipped in 15 points apiece in the win. Vogel and Vosters each picked up 10 rebounds as well.

Fochs claims title at Highlander Invite   

Bryce Fochs pinned all five of his opponents enroute to claiming the heavyweight title at the Highlander Invitational hosted by Homestead on Friday.

All five pins came in the first period as Fochs improved to 32-5 on the season. He needed just 51 seconds to stop Keaten Pues of New London in the title match.

Jacob Herm (113) finished 4-1 with three pins to place second, dropping a hard-fought 4-1 decision to West Bend West’s Ben Bast in the finals. Austin Lewis (145) added a third place, Jayden Sheppard (132) was fourth and Davin Munoz (195) placed fifth for the Rockets.

Neenah finished with 270 points to take fourth in the loaded 29-team field. Nicolet won the team title with 326.5 points, followed by Kimberly (296) and Wisconsin Rapids (289).

Rockets edged by Ghosts in FVA dual

Kaukauna posted wins in the final two weight classes, the last by forfeit, to sting Neenah’s wrestlers, 38-31, in a Fox Valley Association dual meet last Thursday.

The Rockets got pins from Jacob Herm (113) and Eli Gast (170), while Austin Lewis )152), Davin Munoz (195), Caleb Leston (220) and Bryce Fochs (285) also picked up contested wins in the match. Jayden Sheppard (132) won by forfeit.

 

Boys hockey

Neenah co-op squad rebounds from loss with shutout

Ian Engel played a part in all four goals for Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha as the Rockets blanked Marquette, 4-0, at home on Saturday.

Engel opened the scoring in the first period with a short-handed goal and then assisted on all three of the Rockets’ tallies in the third period to help put the game away. Gabe Randel, Ben Kitkowski and John Kriz also scored goals in the win, while Easton Plachetka picked up a pair of assists.

Caleb Moore stopped all 10 shots he faced to earn the shutout in goal.

The win came after the Rockets fell to Stevens Point, 4-3, the night before.

Randel, Aidan Paschke and Engel each scored for N/H/M, which scored all three of its goals in the second period to take a 3-2 lead into the final period but couldn’t hold on. Kriz tallied a pair of assists in the loss.

Jaeden Hannus finished with 14 saves for the Rockets.
