Neenah finishes second in Viking Scramble
The Neenah wrestling team competed in the Valders Viking Scramble on Saturday, finishing second out of 12 teams.
The Rockets got a first place finish from Jacob Herm at 113 pounds, finishing 5-0 on the day with all pins. Finishing second included Jayden Sheppard (132), Nick Novak (152), Eli Gast (182), Davin Munoz (195) and Caleb Letson (220).
Adding top three finishes included Bryce Fochs (285), Joey Dringoli (160) and William Rambert (126).
BOYS BASKETBALL
Neenah picks up two big wins
The second-ranked Neenah boys basketball team continued its hot play as the Rockets picked up two huge wins this last week – a 59-55 win over third-ranked Appleton East and then a 47-43 win over Brookfield East on Saturday.
In the win over the Patriots, Chevalier Emery Jr. scored 20 points while Carter Thomas had 19. Brady Corso added 10 for Neenah, which improved to 13-1 with the two wins while keeping the first place mark in the Fox Valley Association.
Sitting at 8-1, Neenah now holds a one game lead over Appleton East. The only loss of the season came to the Patriots and the Rockets have won 10 straight since.
On Saturday Neenah held off Brookfield East thanks to a balanced offensive attack. Emery Jr. had 14, JJ Paider had 13 and Thomas added 10 in the win.
Reedsville tops St. Mary Catholic
The St. Mary Catholic boys basketball team struggled in the first half en route to a 77-67 loss on the road on Thursday.
The Zephyrs (8-4) were led by Cole Uhlenbrauck, who had 21 points. Michael Fairweather and Daniel Griffith each added 12 and 11 points in the loss.
Carter Salm and Brennen Dvorachek each had 21 points to lead Reedsville.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Neenah blows by Appleton East in big FVA matchup
The Neenah girls basketball team picked up a big Fox Valley Association win on Friday night, beating Appleton East 92-74.
The win moved the Rockets (9-3) to fourth in the conference with a 6-2 mark. Hortonville remains undefeated at 10-0 while the Patriots move to 8-2. Kaukauna is in third at 7-3.
The Rockets were led by Allie Ziebell, who had 37 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists – to go along with four steals – while making four three point shots.
Ava Kok added 20 pounds and seven rebounds for Neenah, which shot 34-for-67 from the field.
Zephyrs tied for first with win
The St. Mary Catholic girls basketball team picked up a huge Big East North win on Friday, beating first-place Mishicot 80-65.
The win moves the Zephyrs (13-1, 6-1) tied for first in the conference.
St. Mary Catholic was led by Chloe Vogel, who had 21 points, six rebounds and five steals. Sienna Anderson had 15 points while Lilly Griffith had 14 points in the win. Audrey Norville and Jaydin Vosters combined to score 21 in the win.
