Neenah blows by Oshkosh North

The Neenah girls basketball team outscored Oshkosh North by 30 in the second half en route to a big 69-29 Fox Valley Association win on the road Friday.

The Rockets (16-5, 12-4 FVA) got 27 points, four rebounds and four steals from Allie Ziebell while Ava Kok added 14 points. Ziebell was 10-of-16 from the field and 5-of-10 from deep while Kok added two triples.

Amaya Jones added nine points and seven rebounds in the big win.

Zephyrs improve to 21-1 with win

The St. Mary Catholic girls basketball team improved to 21-1 this season after picking up a 61-42 win over Manitowoc Lutheran on Thursday.

The Zephyrs remain in first by a game in the Big East-North with a 16-1 record. Mishicot sits in second with a 15-2 record.

Emily Vogel led a balanced Zephyr team with 10 points as six players scored eight or more points. Lilly Griffith, Chloe Vogel and Audrey Norville scored nine while Sienna Anderson and Jaydin Vosters chipped in eight.

Vogel added 10 rebounds and four assists in the win.

Zephyrs struggle in first half

The St. Mary Catholic boys basketball team gave up 52 points in the first half as they suffered a 91-66 loss to Howards Grove on Friday night.

The Zephyrs (13-8, 10-6 Big East North) remain in third after the loss, sitting behind Howards Grove and Reedsville.

St. Mary Catholic was led by Cole Uhlenbrauck, who had 18 points and eight rebounds while Daniel Griffith and Charlie Nackers added 13 points.

WRESTLING

Rockets finish second in Hortonville regional

The Neenah wrestling team took second in the WIAA Division 1 regional Saturday, which was held at Hortonville High School.

The Rockets advanced 11 to the sectional, which will be held in Hortonville.

Neenah had five winners on Saturday in Jacob Herm (106), Austin Lewis (145), Eli Gast (170), Caleb Letson (220) and Bryce Fochs (285).

Finishing runner-up for the Rockets was Davin Munoz (195) and Nick Novak (152), while Jayden Sheppard (126) and Charlie Alft (138) were third. Finishing fourth and advancing to sectionals was Preston Hella (113) and William Rambert (132).

BOYS SWIMMING

Neenah wins home sectional

The Neenah boys swimming and diving team won their WIAA Division 1 sectional on Saturday, winning the 12-team sectional with 380 points.

The Rockets won a couple of events and advanced 10 events to the state championships.

The winner of each individual event automatically qualifies for the WIAA state tournament, which will be held Saturday at Waukesha South High School. The rest who advanced to state qualified based off state sectional times.

Picking up wins for Neenah included the 200 yard medley relay team (Nolan Balensiefen, Drew Gaerthofner, Austin Henderson, Carter Bauman) and Austin Henderson in the 100 yard backstroke (52.24). Henderson also advanced in the 100 yard butterfly after finishing second with a time of 52.19.

Finishing second and third in the diving competition was Ryan Foucault and Connor Buss – both who advanced to state.

Also advancing was Bauman, who was second in the 50 yard free (21.78) and 100 yard free (47.95).

The 200 yard free relay team (Balensiefen, Hayden Holinbeck, Jensen Rocke, Caleb Youngwerth) finished third while the 400 yard free relay (Bauman, Balensiefen, Youngwerth, Henderson) finished second – both advancing to state.

Gaerthofner advanced in the 100 yard breaststroke after finishing runner up with a time of 1:01.02.
