 Neenah third in FVA meet

 The Neenah wrestling team finished third in the Fox Valley Association meet on Saturday, finishing behind Kimberly and Kaukauna.

The Rockets had three winners in Bryce Fochs (285), Eli Gast (170) and Jacob Herm (106) while Charlie Alft (138), Austin Lewis (145) and Nick Novak (152) finished runner up.

Herm recorded two pins en route to his title, including a pin in 1:11 over Kaukauna’s Michael Posorski in the championship. Gast won a 9-3 decision in the quarterfinals and then recorded a pin in 3:12 in the semis to advance to the title match, where he won a 4-1 decision over Kimberly’s Brody Beck.

Then at the heavyweight bracket, Fochs recorded three straight pins to get to the championship match, where he picked up a 4-1 decision.

Those with third-place finishes included Davin Munoz (182) and William Rambert (126).

 

BOYS SWIMMING

 Neenah wins FVA team title

The Neenah boys swimming and diving team won the Fox Valley Association championships on Saturday, dominating with 644 team points.

Neenah’s Austin Henderson captured two titles on the day, winning the 100 butterfly (54.29) and the 100 backstroke (53.95).

Drew Gaerthofner added an individual title in the 200 IM (2:07.77), while the 200 medley relay (Nolan Balensiefen, Jensen Rocke, Henderson, Hayden Holinbeck) won with a time of 1:41.88 and the 200 free relay (Balensiefen, Holinbeck, Caleb Youngwerth and Carter Bauman) won with a time of 1:31.21.

The 400 free relay (Youngwerth, Bauman, Gaerthofner, Henderson) also captured a title with a time of 3:20.11.

Finishing second for the Rockets included Ryan Foucault (diving, 331.95), the 200 medley relay (1:47.62), Youngwerth (200 free, 1:48.20 and 500 free, 5:08.41), Bauman (50 free, 22.45 and 100 free, 50.60), Nicolas Boyer (100 fly, 58.23) and Gaerthofner (100 breast, 1:04.42).

 

BOYS BASKETBALL

 Neenah pounds Appleton West, stays in first

The top-ranked Neenah boys basketball team improved to 19-1 this season with a 103-43 win over Appleton West on Friday in a Fox Valley Association contest.

No individual statistics were available.

The Rockets (19-1, 13-1) have a big showdown against Kimberly (12-2 FVA) on Thursday before hosting Oshkosh North (9-5 FVA) on Saturday.

 

Uhlenbrauck, Griffith carry Zephyrs

The St. Mary Catholic boys basketball team got big nights from Cole Uhlenbrauck and Daniel Griffith as they picked up an 88-80 win over Random Lake on Thursday night on the road.

The Zephyrs got 54 points between the two as Uhlenbrauck was 5-of-13 from deep and 6-of-6 from the free throw line while adding seven rebounds and seven assists.

Griffith was 4-of-8 from deep and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe and had 12 assists and three steals.

Michael Fairweather added 11 points while Fisher MacKenzie chipped in 10 points in the win.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

 Neenah picks up two wins

The Neenah girls basketball team picked up two wins this past week, beating Wausau West 72-58 on Thursday and then 70-56 over Appleton West in a Fox Valley Association contest.

The Rockets (14-5, 10-4) got 33 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, five steals and three blocks from Allie Ziebell while Ava Kok had 17 points. Neenah was 11-of-22 from deep as Ziebell knocked down six of them.

No stats were available from Saturday’s game.

 

Zephyrs hold off Howards Grove

The St. Mary Catholic girls basketball team remained in first place in the Big East-North after picking up a 61-53 win over Howards Grove on Friday.

The Zephyrs (19-1, 14-1) remain in first by one game over Mishicot.

Jaydin Vosters led the way with 23 points, seven rebounds, five assists and six steals while Chloe Vogel had 15 points.

The Zephyrs had 19 steals in the win.

 

BOYS HOCKEY

 Neenah starts slow in loss to Fondy/Springs

The Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha boys hockey team started slow in a 6-2 loss against Fond du Lac/St. Mary’s Springs on Saturday.

The Ledgers scored two goals in every period and took a 4-0 lead before Neenah’s Gabe Randel got the Rockets on the board thanks to assists from Easton Plachetka and Ian Engel.

Neenah added one more in the third when Luke Sutton scored from a Beckett Davidson assist.

Caleb Moore had 13 saves while Jaeden Hannus had five saves in the loss.
