 Rockets pick up two wins over weekend

 The top-ranked Neenah boys basketball team improved to 17-1 this season after picking up two more wins over the weekend, a 73-42 win over Oshkosh West and then a 63-57 win over  No. 6 Brookfield Central on Saturday.

In Friday’s win over the Wildcats, Neenah outscored them 42-19 in the second half to pull away – getting 20 points, four assists and four steals from Chevalier Emery Jr. while Carter Thomas added 12 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Eli Schmidt added 11 points for the Rockets, who continue to hold a one game lead over Kimberly. The Rockets are 11-1 in the Fox Valley Association.

In the win over Brookfield, the Rockets held on to win despite a big night from Andrew Rohde – who had 29 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

No individual statistics were available for Neenah.

 

Zephyrs lose pair of games

The St. Mary Catholic boys basketball team dropped a pair of games over the week, falling 66-54 to Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah on Thursday and a 85-69 loss to Milwaukee Academy of Science on Saturday.

In Thursday’s win, Cole Uhlenbrauck led the way with 17 points while Daniel Griffith and Ryan Ortscheid added 12 and 10 points, respectfully.

Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah outscored the Zephyrs by 11 in the second half.

In Saturday’s game, Uhlenbrauck led the way with 24 points while hitting four 3-point shots. Griffith added 17 points in the loss.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

 Neenah continues to win in tight FVA

The Neenah girls basketball team picked up another win on Friday, beating Oshkosh West 64-41 in a Fox Valley Association contest at home.

The win improved Neenah to 12-4 on the year, with a 9-3 mark in conference. They remain in third behind Appleton East (11-2) and Hortonville (13-0).

The Rockets used a big first half (30-14) to beat the Wildcats and got another big night from Allie Ziebell – scoring 33 points, grabbing nine rebounds while dishing out six assists. She went 10-of-18 from the field, made three triples and was 10-of-11 from the field.

Paige Werner added 14 points while Ava Kok had 10.

 

Zephyrs remain in first place

The St. Mary Catholic girls basketball team improved to 17-1 this season after yet another big win, this time over Random Lake, 79-49, in a non conference game Friday.

Leading the way was Lilly Griffith, who had 16 points and five steals – hitting 4-of-6 threes while Sienna Anderson had 13 points, six assists and four steals. Chloe Vogel added 10 points and three steals as they combined for 18 as a team.

The Zephyrs outscored Random Lake 49-19 in the first half in the win.

 

BOYS HOCKEY

 Rockets lose in OT

The Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha Rockets boys hockey team lost in overtime on Saturday, falling 2-1 to Ashwaubenon.

The Rockets (15-4) scored first, getting a goal from Thomas Burns (Easton Plachetka and Luke Sutton assist) in the first period but Ashwaubenon scored in the second to tie it up.

Then in overtime, Zach Wescott scored at the 1:58 mark to win the game.

Caleb Moore recorded 23 saves in the loss.
