Rockets pick up statement win over Spartans

The fourth-ranked Neenah boys basketball team picked up a crucial Fox Valley Association win on Friday night, beating fifth-ranked Oshkosh North on the road, 74-54.

The Rockets (10-1, 6-1 FVA) sit tied for first in the conference with the win with Appleton East while Oshkosh North (5-2) is tied for second.

The Rockets had a big night from Chevalier Emery Jr. as he scored 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting, while going 4-of-6 from deep. He was also 4-of-4 from the free throw line while adding five assists and three steals.

Brady Corso added 15 points on all triples while Carter Thomas added 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

WRESTLING

Neenah finishes sixth in Duffy Invite

The Neenah wrestling team competed in the Duffy Invitational on Saturday, finishing sixth out of 17 teams.

The Rockets had a handful of top five finishes as Caleb Letson (285 pounds) and Jacob Herm (113) both finished runner up. Herm went 2-1, winning his first two matches by pin and major decision before falling on a close 3-1 decision in the championship. Letson also won his first two matches – both by pin – before falling 5-2 in the championship match.

Jayden Sheppard was third at 132 pounds, going 1-1. He won his quarterfinal match with a pin in 1:39 before falling by decision in the semis. He won the third place match with a pin in 1:26.

Bryce Fochs (220) was fourth, picking up a pin in the first match before falling the next two by decision and injury in the third place match. Austin Lewis (145) added a fourth place finish as he won his first two matches, by pin and sudden victory before losing by major decision in the semis and then by medican forfeit in the third place match.

Nick Novak (152) was fifth with a 4-1 record. Novak picked up three wins by decision and won his last three matches after starting 1-1.

Davin Munoz was sixth at 195 pounds, going 3-2, recording two pins. Eli Gast (182) added an eighth place finish for Neenah.

Luxemburg-Casco won the invite with 206.5 points with Milton coming in second with 176.5. The Rockets finished with 123.5 points.
